Book review

Twilight is a love story between Bella and Edward, told from Bella's perspective. She's the human and he's the vampire and they are together even though they shouldn't. Their love causes many problems and Bella's life will soon be in danger. In this book there are many different themes but the four major ones are "Forbidden love, "Love conquers all", "Good VS Evil" and "The choice we make in life" all of them playing a huge part in the book.

The message is told in a very abstract way and it's hard for you to figure it out but after a while you come to understand that "The choice we make in life" is the actual theme that contains the books message. At least I think that what Stephenie Meyer is trying to explain in this book is that all the choices we make in life is always going to effect us in some way. Nothing can be undone but you can make the best of the situation and you can try to fix the problems that you have.

This is a book that I strongly recommend to everyone, people that like passion, action, drama, romance and much more, both for young and adults.  My favourite character is Alice, Edwards sister, she's very graceful and always happy. I think that she's the one who spread happiness and make you laugh. Without Alice,  Twilight would have been a very sad and depressing story, not a story you would want to read.
When I finished reading Twilight I was a little bit sad even though the end was perfect because I wanted it to be longer, I didn't want it to stop. For me Twilight was a book that took you by storm, I didn't expect it to be that good. It was really amazing and I enjoyed every second of it.

When I started to read Twilight I automatically compared it to "The beauty and the beast". The beast thinks that nobody can love him, he's a monster, still the beauty (also named Bella) slowly falls in love with him.
The same thing happens in Twilight. The beast is Edward and the beauty is Bella.

I also compared Twilight with a series called True Blood, which also is about vampires, ware wolfs and other fantasy creatures. In the story a human girl with special abilities like Bella, named Sookie, falls in love with Bill, a vampire. It happens the same things that happens in Twilight, their love causes many problems and they risk their own life's to save each others. I think that Twilight and True blood are different in many small ways but in general they are like a copy of each other.

Stephenie Meyer is the author that have written Twilight, she's an American author, born 24th of December 1973. Twilight is her first and most famous work. When it was first released it became the years most sold book. It's a mix of fantasy and romance, a gothic romance. The series contains four books named Twilight, New moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Stephenie Meyer have also written The host and a novel called The short second life of Bree Tanner. The whole Twilight saga also exist in movies except for Breaking dawn that will be shown at the cinema 18th November 2011.  Meyer said that the idea for Twilight appeared in a dream and when she woke up, she started to write it down immediately. The year of 2008 she was appointed by USA Today (a news paper) to "The years author".

Summary of Twilight

Twilight is the first book in a series called Twilight. This book is about a girl named Bella she's seventeen and have moved to the little city named Forks where her dad, Charlie, lives. From the beginning she lived in Phoenix with her mom Renée and her stepfather Phil. He's a baseball player and travels much so that's why she decided to move to Forks so Renée and Phil can travel alone for the first time.
The first day in the new school she saw a boy named Edward, he was different. She got to know from her friend, Jessica, that he and the other ones who sat far away from every other person in the dinner room were adopted by Carlisle, a very good and respected doctor in Forks, and his wife Esme.
When she had biology she was placed next to Edward and he acted very strange, he moved so far away he could from her and when the lesson ended he ran out before anyone else had risen from there chairs.
The next day she decided to demand some answers but he never came, neither did he the day after or the day after that and so on. He was away for a hole week and when he came back he started to talk with her and acted like a normal person.
The same day Bella was on her way to her car and saw Edward standing leaned to his car on the other side of the parking lot when she suddenly herd a boy scream to her "MOVE BELLA!!!" with horror in his voice and suddenly Edward was next to her and pulled the car away with his hand and disappeared as sudden as he came. When she asked how he came to her so fast he told her that he had been standing next to her, trying to deny the fact that he has supernatural powers.
Bella decided to figure out what he was because she was sure that he wasn't a human.
During the time she was trying to do that, she slowly fell in love with him. When she get to know that he was a vampire she wasn't afraid, it didn't matter to her what he was because she loved him.
First Edward didn't want Bella to be with him, he didn't want her to risk her life for him, but he couldn't stay away from her since he loved her to. So they got together and after a while Edward invited Bella to meet his family but when they went out to play baseball suddenly three others vampires appeared of which two of them wanted Bella and the hunt started...
Eventually Edward and his family caught and killed one of them but the other one where still on free foot.
Edward didn't know what he was going to do, is he going to leave Bella or continue being with her? Both things are going to hurt her. What are he going to choose?
The answer is given in the second book New Moon.

Theme

I have noticed that this book has many different themes but the main themes are:
"Forbidden Love", "The choice we make in life" and "Love conquers all". Bella and Edward are from two different worlds, he's a vampire and she's just a human. Every time Bella is with Edward she risks her life and Edward risks to loose his family, for example, when James and Victoria chased Bella, he and his family protected her and risked their own lives for hers. I can come up with so many reasons why they shouldn't be together so why are they?
...
It's because love conquers all. Their love to each other make all this things possible, they are fighting for their love. They are making this choice by their selves, the choice we make in life, if Edward wouldn't have chosen to rescue Bella from the car that was about to run her over, she would probably have died and they would never have been together.
Bella wasn't afraid when she got to know that Edward was a vampire, she didn't run away and Edward didn't drink her blood even if he wanted to so bad. All the choices that they maid, bad and good, is for there love, and there love is going to hold forever.

Bella and Edward

Character description

Edward is the complete opposite to any "normal" person.
He have eyes that change colour from brown to black, he's strong, fast and smooth, he can read peoples minds, it looks like he has tiny little diamonds all over his skin that sparkle in the sun and he is totally gorgeous.
He's a vampire.
Carlisle and Esme adopted Edward after Carlisle transformed him. He have  two adopted sisters, Alice and Rosaline, and two adopted brothers, Jasper and Emmett, all vampires, but Edward and his family are different from the other vampires you may have herd of,  they only drink animal blood. In the book Edward says to Bella that Carlisle don't force him or anyone else to drink animals blood, he have huge respect for Carlisle but that's not the only reason why he don't drink human blood. He choose not to do that because he don't want to be a monster.
Bella in the other hand is a "absolute ordinary" girl , she isn't a genius and not an idiot, doesn't always wear the coolest cloths but not the nerdy ones either. She's absolute "normal" except of one thing, she isn't afraid for things that you usually are afraid for.
For example when Edward invited Bella to Cullen's house  to meet his family, Bella wasn't afraid that she was going to be in a house full of vampires and that they would be able to  kill her any minute, instead, she was afraid that they may not like her. She must have had very much trust in them otherwise she would not have been that calm.
Bella also have gifts , for example, Edward can't read her mind which she is very happy for since Bella is afraid that he may get angry and she will loose him.
Edward on the other hand thinks it is very annoying, he wants to know what Bella thinks about him, is she scared, uncomfortable or does she love him.
Unfortunately Bella have a unique smell, all vampires think she smells delicious and that is one of the reasons she gets so many vampire enemies. For Edward it's harder to resist not to drink her blood, it's like a drug to him and every time she's with him Edward have to control him self more then what he's used to.

Reading log

“No,” I said softly. “It doesn’t matter to me what you are.” A hard, mocking edge entered his voice. “You don’t care if I’m a monster?"

He’s a monster but still she wants to be with him and she’ll do anything for their love, even if she may get hurt. Edward on the other hand gets angry over her reaction since he loves her and thinks it’s dangerous for her to be with him. He wants her to be afraid, to leave, but still his heart wants the same as hers.

First impressions

I already read this book in Swedish so I know what's going to happen, but for me it was a great joy to read the English version because I thought that the feelings were better described. The story takes place in a little town named Forks were it rains throughout the whole year. The first chapter starts with Bella, the main character, saying  "I never give much thought to how I would die- thought I'd had reason enough in the last few months-but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this.". The reader then wants to know why she is going to die, what has happen? So you start to read more to understand what's going on and to get to that exciting point.
The next chapter was about Bella's ride to Forks and her first impression about the little town including everyone who lives there. When you read you get to know a lot of things, for example that Bella's relationship with her father is so-so, that they feel like strangers to each other and seem uncomfortable when they are together. I noticed that the story takes place at present time in the way that everybody act and  in the describing of the surroundings.
As you may have noticed the book is all about Bella, but later on there's going to be two more character which have a huge roll in the series, Edward and Jacob.
